Worship Songs Rooted in the New Covenant

The new covenant is not the replacement of the Torah. It is its fulfillment, the moment described in Jeremiah 31 and Ezekiel 36 when Yahweh writes His law on the heart rather than stone tablets alone, puts His Spirit within His people, and empowers them to walk in His ways. The new covenant intensifies the Torah; it does not evacuate it.

NARROWAY sings from within this understanding. The feasts are still celebrated because they are still Yahweh's moedim. The Sabbath is still observed because it is still His covenant sign. The name Yahweh is still used because it is still His name. The new covenant makes the Torah accessible in a new way, not optional in a new way.

Songs like "He Passed Over Me" speak to the Passover redemption that the new covenant fulfills. "Planted By The Water" draws from Psalm 1, a vision of the person who is thoroughly new-covenant: rooted in the law, fruitful in season, unmoved in trial. This is the life the new covenant was meant to produce.
